Annual ALR Chapter Report – now online!

Finally, the Annual ALR Chapter Report is online and ready for ALR Chapter Directors to complete. No more hassles with printing the form, filling it out, mailing it, etc.

This information is vital for Department ALR Chairman Barry Maples in reporting to the American Legion of ALR activities and contributions across the state. Please complete the form as soon as possible, so that the information can be tabulated and formatted for presenting to the American Legion at Mid-Winter Forum and Department Convention.

Click here to fill out the form. (It literally takes 5 minutes!!!)

Please note that only Chapter Directors (or whoever they assign) should complete the report.

And remember that while no chapter does everything, every chapter does something! Be sure to fill out the report to show the impact your Chapter has throughout the year!

The 2026 Kansas Legacy Run will begin in Junction City on 12 June and end in Dodge City on 14 June 2026.  We’ll visit posts in Emporia, El Dorado, Mulvane, Great Bend and Dodge City, and memorials in Winfield, Anthony, Barber Co, Pratt, and South Hutchinson. Highlights also include wreath layings and very special stops at the Winfield Veterans Home and the Kansas Soldiers Home at Fort Dodge.

Also – don’t forget – The British Are Coming! Six members of the Royal British Legion Riders will be joining us on the Run, coming across the pond to ride with us.

Sponsorships: As with the National Legacy Run, we are again raising funds for The American Legion Veterans and Children Foundation (VCF), which provides one-time grants of up to $1,500 to US Veterans and their families who are experiencing financial hardships. The VCF also funds training for The American Legion organization’s accredited veteran service officers who are continuously working more than 750,000 benefits claims for disabled veterans and their families, free of charge.

Each year the VCF distributes from $250,000 to $1.5 million to these deserving Veterans and their families. This is the 3rd year that the National Legacy Run and the Kansas Legacy Run, along with other in-state Runs across the US are raising funds for this worthy cause.

Here’s a link to learn more about the VCF: https://www.legion.org/get-involved/community-programs/veterans-and-children-foundation

We will have the same sponsorship levels this year:

  • $100-249 for Supporting Sponsors – all sponsors will be listed on the back of the KSLR t-shirt and in the Run booklet.
  • $250 and up for Premier sponsors, and they will be prominently featured on the shirt and in the booklet.
  • Also this year we will have a plaque for all the sponsors ($100 and up) to recognize their contributions. The plaque for the Premier sponsors will be larger to recognize their contribution.

Contributions can be sent to American Legion Post 180, c/o Kansas Legacy Run, Box 721, Great Bend KS 67530. We have a separate account set up for the KSLR, approved by Jimmie Foster, with oversight by our Post leadership and our Post Finance Officer. At the conclusion of the Run, a check will be cut to Department for our contribution to The American Legion Veterans and Children Foundation.

Contributions can also be sent via PayPal, to @KansasLegacyRun.

27 June 2026 – Sendoff for US Army Recruit Peyton Smith

Peyton Smith will be shipping out to Fort Benning on 6 July, and his family has asked the ALR to do a proper Sendoff for him. It will be held at the Boy Scout Cabin at the corner of S Grand and E Commercial in Lyons on 27 June at 1600 hrs (4pm). Since Lyons doesn’t have an ALR Chapter, we are asking any and all riders that are available to come and support this young man as he begins his service to the USA. ALR 180 Great Bend will supply a Support Our Troops flag for everyone to sign.

4 July 2026 – Sojourn 250

From Legion.org:

American Legion Riders will escort U.S. flag from Pittsburgh to nation’s capital in celebration of America’s 250th birthday.

Registration now is open to American Legion Riders for Sojourn 250, a one-day ride from Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C., that will cap a 26-country journey for the U.S. flag to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday. Register here.

On July 4, American Legion Riders will provide an escort to an American flag that will have traveled 26 countries, flying over the graves and memorials of U.S. heroes buried in cemeteries under the American Battle Monuments Commission’s care. The final leg of that international tour begins at the national headquarters of the National Flag Foundation in Pittsburgh and will end in the nation’s capital. The route still is being determined.

Once the route is made available, American Legion Family members are encouraged to line it and cheer from overpasses or other vantage points.

The registration fee is $250 per rider and $50 for passengers. Registration is only online.

Registration closes when 275 riders have registered online. If you have questions, please email legionriders@legion.org  and use the subject line Sojourn 250.

Several Kansas ALR members are planning to take part in this ride. If you’re interested in going, contact ALR Dept Secretary Chris Krueger at chrisk153 (at) gmail (dot) com.
